At Kainos we change the way the world uses technology, and how that technology interacts with you. We deliver difficult digital programmes in challenging environments that have real, measured, benefits and positive impacts on millions. We do not do easy and we thrive on challenge.
As a Senior Software Engineer in Kainos, you’ll be responsible for developing solutions which meet our clients’ user needs while changing the way they see, use and interact with them, making it painless, simple and effective. The solutions you engineer will have a meaningful impact on millions of people. You’ll do this using a variety of tech stacks which may include JVM languages such as Java, Scala, Go or Python delivering them within agile environments where you’ll be surrounded by likeminded people who are seeking to learn, develop and grow while mentoring those around them.
The ideal candidate:
You’re a coder at heart, you enjoy building new solutions and you push yourself to seek new and ever more efficient ways of delivering a solution. You love developing your knowledge and you’re not afraid to make mistakes as you learn from them.
These are some things we think are critical:
We drive growth internally, last year we promoted 21% of our staff and there are opportunities abound. We’re looking for you to come in and grow. For this role that means moving into a Lead Software Engineer or a Technical Architect – from there it could be to a Solution and then Principal Architect. But if you decide you want a change, you can move into a product career stream such as our Product Consultants and Product Leads or into WebOps if so inclined. We provide the opportunities, it’s up to you to grow – our attrition is amazingly low because of this – sub 10%!
You’ll be given access to an excellent benefits package which includes Cycle to Work, Child Care vouchers, Pension, Medical, excellent holidays and an amazing internal training academy – recognised within the UK as a leading training programme by the Princess Royal. We pride ourselves on growing our people.
Interested? Click Apply and start your journey to join our team. You’ll receive acknowledgement of your application followed by either a call or email to discuss your application or to notify you of the status of it. After that you may be asked to have a telephone interview with one of our specialists and if that goes well, we’ll bring you in for a final interview.
We’re a consultancy and our clients are scattered throughout the UK and beyond, travel is part of everyone’s role here and while we do what we can to minimise it (like put you on projects near your home or in your contracted office) we need our people to be willing to travel up to 4 days per week if required.
If successful, you’ll be asked to complete an AccessNI or Disclosure Scotland request - If you’ve a record, don’t worry, just make sure you let us know – some of our projects and roles require security clearance which may mean you can’t be considered for that role, but can be considered for others.
We’re an inclusive bunch at Kainos and we believe in equal opportunity. We welcome applications from all walks
of life, including those with criminal records. Everyone who is offered a position here undergoes a background
check, however no one is treated differently due to their background where it isn’t relevant to the role. It’s
important to note – failure to reveal information which is relevant to the position sought, could result in us
having to withdraw the conditional offer of employment.
In short: Having a criminal record will not exclude you from a career with Kainos. This depends entirely on the nature and requirements of the position, together with the circumstances and background of offences.
