Culture and values

Cultivating talents

Our plan is simple. We hire the best people, and we help them to become even better.

The Kainos Academy, our million£ investment in training and career development, offers everything an ambitious recruit needs to succeed. From in-depth technical courses to intensive leadership coaching, we’ll help you get to where you want to be.

And we don’t limit our encouragement to learn: our unique Skills for Me programme offers £250 each year to employees to develop talents outside the workplace too. We’ve had staff learn how to cook, dance, and even hang-glide – the choice is yours. We just love having well-rounded, happy staff!

Life-changing work

The projects we work on make a real difference, and that’s what makes us special.

It’s work that you can be proud of, and brings with it great opportunities to travel, build your reputation and collaborate with some of the biggest and best organisations in the world.

Working on projects that are truly life-changing means that our people get to work with the latest and emerging technologies. It’s inspiring, challenging – and incredibly rewarding.

In my time at Kainos I have fulfilled many roles, from Software Engineer, Senior Consultant to Project Manager. For each role I’ve received so much support from my colleagues as well as formal and in-house training courses.

Working at Kainos, the range of projects and the need to learn new domains is both challenging and interesting. It is interesting to work on projects such as DVSA and Land Registry that are nationally important.

I have been on external and internal training, and access to self study materials allows me to learn at my own pace. This flexible approach Kainos has to support highlights that the company understands that staff are individuals and there is a ‘no one size fits all’ solution.

What initially attracted me to Kainos was the interesting, diverse range of projects, and the great people. I like that I’m surrounded by technical people whom I can rely on and trust for support.

Team structures, although made up of people with various levels of experience feel flatly structured meaning you are able to put forward ideas and have them considered/implemented regardless of what level you are at.

I have a career coach who’s very experienced in my field. I’ve been on training days in analytics and leading workshops, and had time off to go to conferences. I catch up regularly with others in my discipline and they’re very open to answering questions and helping with a problem.

I get a real buzz seeing my projects being used by people in their everyday working lives, such as consultants using Evolve. No conversation about company benefits would be complete without mentioning Skills for Me– where Kainos will pay the fees for any course you would like to achieve.

The culture within Kainos and on project teams is very supportive and welcoming – no matter how senior or junior you are. I’ve never heard anyone say “that’s a stupid question”; everyone goes the extra mile to help each other out, and to support each other in their work.

When I first joined Kainos, I was given a four-week introduction training course, where I learned the basics in a wide range of languages some of which include Java, SQL & HTML. Everyone has been very helpful and willing to help me learn whenever I am introduced to new technologies.

I perceived Kainos as a people-orientated company where I would be given the opportunity to develop. My perception couldn’t have been more accurate and as the company grows I’m glad to see this culture remains.
